LA rules, especially when a rooftop pool party brings together a nice mix of music (NY's Holy Ghost! & LA's Classixx who've remixed each other), a fairly equal mix of New Yorkers & Angelenos wearing close to nothing under the warm California sunshine, sprinkled with the wicked friends of Dorothy & the sexy friends of Bill! Los Angeles is such a vast & compartmentalized mosaic. there's more diversity here than most other sprawling megapolis... in spite of the thick veil of hipsterdom, on a rooftop at the center of it all, the mosaic may just morph into an actual melting pot!
throughout this page, find a few more songs to play along with your glancing at my super lo-fi mobile pics. i highly recommend watching the clip at the tail end of this post. no need to speak nor understand italian; if you have a pulse, it will tickle your fancy... back to Holy Ghost, check out the 4th video down this page... ok, here we go:

this catchy sign is appropriately located in Koreatown. if you live in LA, you know that one must drive most defensively in K-town. the use of rear & sideview mirrors, turning signals & many other driving rules seem to be ignored more often in K-town than other parts of LA... however, Koreans have the best BBQ joints, some of the best late late night eateries & decadent karaoke bars. they're certainly worth the risk! just drive defensively while keeping your cool. never forget: safety is sexy!!!

poolside afternoons aside, there's nothing better than bumping into old friends in Elysian Park while unwinding on a sunset hike with Chicho... on this note, lets wrap it up with a jazzy American classic:

i love Chicho more than anything in the world! finally, here's some fantastic footage of the woman this pooch was named after - the fearless Cicciolina! in this interview at her Roman pad, she's questioned about which celebrities she would bed. this was before Jeff Koons exploited their union & dragged her in a divorce from hell... when asked about Libya's dictator Khadafi, la Cicciolina says "no" because she is against colonels, which makes it all the more selfless that she offered herself twice to Saddam Hussein - first as a condition for him to pull out of Kuwait & end the Gulf War, then years later to avoid the Bush invasion of Iraq... her admirable variety of humanitarian zeal is worthy of sainthood!!! LONG LIVE LA CICCIOLINA:

MAN☼WOMAN☼PIX☼3MP3Z

my favourite part of this brilliant movie is when the man & the woman reflect on something the acclaimed Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti once said, which goes something like this:

in a fire, between a Rembrandt & a cat, i would save the cat, then set it free... between art & life, I CHOSE LIFE!

...i have these friends - a man & a woman - to whom i dedicate these:

the first & larger set of pics was taken last week at the woman's house in Silverlake. she surprised the man on his birthday with the coolhaus truck and a hot dog stand. friends stocked up on ice cream sandwiches then communicated, sang & played music together... for fun & to burn the calories. playing music is kinda like playing sports, right?!
towards the bottom of this page, the pictures are of a simple dinner at simply thai's then late night desert at pazzo gelato...

the last set of pics was taken during a sincere game of apples to apples in Mt. Washington with our take-out dinner from The Oinkster in Eagle Rock, where everything is made from scratch. their concept is "slow fast food" to bridge the gap between the refinement you'd find at a nice, sit down restaurant and fast food indulgences, with a focus on quality ingredients. next time my folks visit, we're going to The Oinkster for what is now my favourite combo of calories in LA - classic American burgers, house cured pastrami, rotisserie chicken, pork brined in soy sauce & honey then smoked with applewood, and crisp Belgian fries. the hand cut kennebec potatoes are twice fried - once in beef fat, and then finished off in rice bran oil. that's how it's done in Belgium, where they usually come with an infinite array of sauces. here they're served with homemade chipotle ketchup & garlic aioli!!! it's amaaazing... if you overdo it, you might have a heart attack, but you'll die happy! on the lighter side, the red beet salad & the red cabbage slaw are so tasty... i settled for a 1/2 chicken (moist & flavorful) with sides of fried plantain & red cabbage slaw, and i indulged in our group order of Belgian fries of course!!! what my folks would most appreciate about The Oinkster is their small but solid selection of Belgian beers on tap, which sometimes includes Delirium Tremens...
