I GOT LIFE... JR!

Photobucket

German musician
Patrice covers Nina Simone's "Ain't Got No (I Got Life)" to the art of JR. the video which was directed by Guillaume Gagniard via Cosa, is notable mostly for the inclusion of JR's artwork:

JR who was born near Paris in 1983, considers himself a photographer before being a street artist, and an activist before being an artist. whatever the hierarchy, his work originates from his passion to publicize the things society keep unsaid. to do so he turns normal people into the protagonists of his large posters, plastered in the environment they inhabit. his career starts in 2004 when, a few months before the beginning of the youth riots in Paris, he undertakes his project, "Portrait d'une Génération," and photographs the inhabitants of the suburb of Clichy-Sous-Bois to then plaster their portraits on the façade of their subsidized homes. since, he's continued to find tensed and densely populated areas - such as the favellas of Rio, the Wall in Israel and Palestine, or Sierra Leone - to use his talent and bring the community together to think about issues of identity, poverty, sexism, boredom or violence...

find out more about JR's amazing Women Are Heroes. here's a 6 minute film summarizing the direction & impact of this beautiful project, which put into play the portraits of 70 women from around the world JR took then plastered by the Isle St. Louis in Paris, before taking this installation to Brussels & other cities... major props:

speaking of phenomenal women, going back to Nina Simone is de rigueur! Nina blows all others out of the water:

BROMANCE ☆ Grum Clip MP3

i'm totally diggin' the homoerotic bromance in this GRUM video directed by The General Assembly... WIN! now, on a softer note, but in a somewhat similar era, Melodie McDaniel directed JOY years before bringing back the whole 80s vibe became trendy then mainstream again. i still love it! watch it HERE... now, what about Joy Boy???! c'mon Melodie, what's up with that?!!! it says "coming soon" and it's been a decade now...Photobucket

Tahiti Boy is back with a new project that is simply called THE LILLIES. it features Tahiti Boy and Sergio Dias of Os Mutantes plus the entire Palmtree Family and special guests Iggy Pop and Jane Birkin (imagine trying to coordinate that many bodies!) - interesting, yeah! this is a true collective of creativity. look for the album out in Europe last week of September on Cooperative Music.

weekend jam ☆ party pics

the Treasure Fingers' remix is cool; the official Monarchy video above offers basic moves anyone could emulate on the dancefloor... still, the unofficial video for Holy Ghost!'s remix shows you the best way to do it. actually, i dig Holy Ghost!'s version of the song better too... lets have a dance, lets do it!

speaking of the weekend, here are my super lo-fi mobile pics from last weekend... at the super cozy & still hipster proof Hyperion Tavern to celebrate the birthday of my old college roommate - the one & only Frosty i.e. the man behind Dublab... then a night of house at Rhonda's, where i bumped into another old friend & former colleague from the coolest indie label in town - Stones Throw... once again - lets have a dance, lets do it:
