my favourite part of this brilliant movie is when the man & the woman reflect on something the acclaimed Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti once said, which goes something like this:
in a fire, between a Rembrandt & a cat, i would save the cat, then set it free... between art & life, I CHOSE LIFE!

...i have these friends - a man & a woman - to whom i dedicate these:
the first & larger set of pics was taken last week at the woman's house in Silverlake. she surprised the man on his birthday with the coolhaus truck and a hot dog stand. friends stocked up on ice cream sandwiches then communicated, sang & played music together... for fun & to burn the calories. playing music is kinda like playing sports, right?!
towards the bottom of this page, the pictures are of a simple dinner at simply thai's then late night desert at pazzo gelato...
the last set of pics was taken during a sincere game of apples to apples in Mt. Washington with our take-out dinner from The Oinkster in Eagle Rock, where everything is made from scratch. their concept is "slow fast food" to bridge the gap between the refinement you'd find at a nice, sit down restaurant and fast food indulgences, with a focus on quality ingredients. next time my folks visit, we're going to The Oinkster for what is now my favourite combo of calories in LA - classic American burgers, house cured pastrami, rotisserie chicken, pork brined in soy sauce & honey then smoked with applewood, and crisp Belgian fries. the hand cut kennebec potatoes are twice fried - once in beef fat, and then finished off in rice bran oil. that's how it's done in Belgium, where they usually come with an infinite array of sauces. here they're served with homemade chipotle ketchup & garlic aioli!!! it's amaaazing... if you overdo it, you might have a heart attack, but you'll die happy! on the lighter side, the red beet salad & the red cabbage slaw are so tasty... i settled for a 1/2 chicken (moist & flavorful) with sides of fried plantain & red cabbage slaw, and i indulged in our group order of Belgian fries of course!!! what my folks would most appreciate about The Oinkster is their small but solid selection of Belgian beers on tap, which sometimes includes Delirium Tremens...
