i love Halloween! i don't really get it, but i love it. as a kid growing up between Europe, Africa & South America, it wasn't something i celebrated. we did go through the motions of the much more somber
All Saints Day that falls around the same time... Halloween reminds me of Carnival, since no one seems to dress up scary. given that the US of A is the most puritanical nation i personally know, it makes sense that so many take Halloween & whatever pagan significance it may have as an opportunity to dress up all slutty, and not so much in good taste... i haven't gone that road yet! well, not on Halloween at least! the funnest Halloween incarnation i've done is Richard Simmons. the laziest is a Hollywood movie star... i've spent several Halloweens in New York City where people love to bag on LA. upon telling someone i was from LA, one New Yorker once retorqued "I'm sooo sorry!" which made me even more grateful to live in LA... since i travel light & i'm lazy, for my first Halloween in NY i just wore my regular clothes, sunglasses & got a piece of red velvet & carried it under my arm from party to party. when anyone would ask me who i was, or why i wasn't in costume, i'd just drop the red velvet to the floor & step on it & tah-dah, i'm a Hollywood movie star on the red carpet. within seconds everyone pulled out their cameras & i was harrassed by the paparazzis. seconds later, i'd step off the carpet & let others step on it so i could take their "movie star" portraits with a polaroid camera! awww, i miss my polaroid camera... that was the simplest costume ever & i worked it!!! anyhew, i dunno yet what i'll do this year. i haven't even given it any thought yet...
more will be revealed!

here's the playlist spread out in 3 big zip files:

Eyes Wide Shut - See No Evil
Eyes Wide Shut - Hear No Evil
Eyes Wide Shut - Speak No Evil

so, this playlist opens with a snippet from Stanley Kurbick's "Eyes Wide Shut" dubbed in Italian, then launches into my usual faves: Grizzly Bear, Marina & The Diamonds (scroll down to bottom for her latest vid), Fever Ray, The Knife, The xx, The Cure, The Horrors, Miike Snow, M83, Phoenix with Devendra Banhart, Chromeo, Tiga's lesser known "Love Don't Dance Here Anymore," etc... at #6 is "Under Your Spell" by
Desire, the band formed by the guy in Glass Candy & some other girl. i luuuv this song. i posted a mellower version of it here before (#39) & another one of their songs in here (#96)... another remix of MSTKRFT's "Heatbreaker" at #15; the video & original track are here posted as well as 2 other remixes here & here... i'm really digging MillionYoung's "Hammock" at #12 as well as Hero 's ode to Michael Jackson "Funeral March" at #7. just in time for Halloween is another remix of MJ's Thriller by Louis La Roche. i posted here another fierce version of this classic... France Gall's "Frankenstein" is rather cute. to balance it out, there's darker psychedelic tunes by Goblin, whose music was all over my favourite horror movie: Suspiria. The Champ's Boy Orchestra at #34 does the funkiest version ever of "Tubular Bells" which is famous for playing in The Exorcist:

this is not in the playlist but i love it:

alright, time for more super lo-fi mobile pics posted in chronological order, from fashion shows to parties & performances...
Maluca at Mustache Mondays (El Tigeraso is #15 in the Summer Star playlist)... Grizzly Bear at the Palladium (there's a remix of them in this playlist; 2 other songs of theirs in this one)... Mr. Black just up the street...
Trannyshack at the Echoplex ...
this was my first time at the Palladium since it reopenned. i like the venue but it still smells like someone died in there. my very first time at that venue was for Björk back in the mid 90s... woah, so much has happened since then... enough said:
