this post needs a soundtrack! Saturday night i had the best times at the Echoplex. it was a last minute decision to go & i'm extremely glad i did. here's more music --a sweet sixteen-- fit for the reading:
most of the artists in this playlist, Chromatics , Mirage & Crystal Castles for sure, have made it in previous playlists posted on this blog. they rule!!! i still can't stop listening to Chromatics' cover of Kate Bush's "running up that hill." Crystal Castles will be in LA sometime in March. i hope you enjoy them as much as i do. this playlist ends on some harder beats by Daft Punk then none other than Berlin's Boys Noize & Siriusmo. i wrap it up with the infectious dancefloor anthem of 2008: "Stuck on Repeat" by Little Boots & MiRAGE's encouraging "I Won't Stop Loving You."
i couldn't make it to the Echoplex on friday, for St. Vincent . i really dig Annie Clark & hope to soon have another opportunity to see her perform...
on the upside, i went to the Echo Park Records party for Alexis' birthday (who kindly got back to me about my rsvp)... the line-up was phenomenal. Ida from Glass Candy is mad hot & soooo cute; you just want to hug her & never let her go. this image is all fuzzy but i didn't take this pic (the 2 other ones in this post that i'm in, i was actually holding the camera). this one's still great. besides, i'll take blurry over getting a flash blinding my eyes anytime, no doubt:
on the upside, i went to the Echo Park
isn't she de-licious? de-lovely? de-viiine? de-groovy?!!! after all, doesn't Ida hail from the City of Roses: Portland Oregon? yep, "made in Portland" is the best!!! or are they from New Jersey, the so-called garden state? i guess that would make sense. this was my first time seeing Glass Candy perform. i was excited... ok, we'll get back to Glass Candy in a bit. earlier, we parked right by this crazy scary monster Hummer; i bet its owner has a tiny penis:
we got to the Echoplex early, although the birthday crew had been drinking for a while. when An walked into the bathroom she found a girl head down on the floor who insisted she just needed a little more time. it wasn't even 10pm yet. classy! anyhew, this is the Echoplex:
the night started with Appaloosa. i had never heard of them before. they were great; it was a nice surprise. i introduced myself to Anne Laure, the singer, who is from Paris. her partner Max is from London...
aren't they cute? they are now touring with Cat Power...
here's fiancés Trevin & An in the crowd:
Guns'n Bom
east side LA locals Los Super Elegantes took over the stage & rocked the crowd in English, Spanish & French, my 3 main languages! i had never seen them either & loved their energy. Milena setting up:
i love the sound of a trumpet:
Nate who's with Stones Throw (another kick ass label) had been celebrating with the birthday boy for a while before gracefully parting the crowd to join us by the stage:
i'll stick to old school fisher price xylophones for kids but i think it's sexy to play the trumpet, or any other brass wind instrument...
An & I between acts:
i don't usually wear sweatshirts with words printed on it, but it's not like this one advertises a label, which i think is really bad taste. it just says "Brussels" which is where i'm from, technically. then again i could say i'm from Cape Town, or from Caracas or Portland, Oregon... whatever, i'm an Angeleno! check out these 2 loud British girls; i snapped their pic before handing them my lighter:
finally Glass Can
Ida jumps into the crowd to sing & dance with fans...
i hadn't danced at a show in soooo long. it felt great. i'm so in love with Ida!!! Arabian Prince (former member of N.W.A. ), fueled more fancy footwork for the rest of the night:
i'm not sure why the firemen were outside when we left:
without a doubt, Italians
