EGYPT
i highly recommend setting aside your CNN, Yahoo News or other corporately biased channels. instead, follow the facts on AL JAZEERA, which has demonstrated fearless journalism without all the bullshit sensationalistic commentary... major props to Al Jazeera!
what is going on in Egypt is of such magnitude! the closest i have ever come to experiencing something like this was the ensuing transitional government of a military coup. fighter jets looming over Caracas & all. sure i was shielded by the blanket of diplomatic immunity & would have had an easy way out if things went south, but i was there. i imagine Egypt is like that multiplied by the millions; this is a People's revolution with the military only standing by so far, thank God!
i find it baffling that some of my American friends are so self-centered that for instance, they gloss over the big picture only to focus on their fellows who they say are stuck on a cruise ship on the Nile. of course, i understand their concern & i wish them to to be safe. everyone deserves it. but guess what? if you're American, and you chose to vacation overseas with your American passport, maybe you really should give it some more thought. make informed choices, and don't expect to be saved just because you're American & you actually took a risk; dig a little deeper! where exactly are you going? do you really want to spend time in a place that is nothing short of a dictatorship? can you understand that public order in such a place may suddenly disappear? do you really have to feed into the economy of a government so corrupt it is destined to be toppled? because it might happen... and that's precisely what's going on. tough luck! hell, i won't purchase or even drink Fiji water because i refuse to indirectly support the shady Fijian dictatorship which overtly oppresses Gays & Lesbians. i'm just saying, know what's going on, consider the potential impact of your decisions, be clear on what you might get yourself into or what you might bring upon others & yourself. regardless, you will undoubtedly be evacuated, at the expense of your fellow taxpayers...
anyhew, my heart does go out to my Egyptian friends who were born & raised in this mess, aren't responsible for their luck in life, and find that if they are privileged, all they ever knew & owned hangs in the balance or might be stripped away. i admire them for standing up for themselves against great odds, and for doing their very best to keep things as peaceful as possible, and i am keeping them in my thoughts. i respect Egyptians for challenging the status quo & overthrowing a regime that has wronged them for 30 years. oh, and maybe, just a little, i hope the cruise ship on the Nile won't charge our fellow Americans for however many extra days they remain on their ship, safely; that would like totally kinda suck, like totally for suuure! more on what these particular Americans mean & the unfortunate foreign policies our great nation has inherited:
