Sushi...Party...LA Story

Murakami's fine sashimi over a bowl of brown rice is my kinda brunch. fresh & tasty, light yet full of the nutrients that get me going through work all the way to the occasional dance parties & gatherings... the spot is low-key & such a bargain, considering the sushi chef has the best contacts & gets the most desirable cuts. if you're a starfucker, Jake Gyllenhal & the likes go there a lot. over the years, i've bumped into Jake at most of of my favourite healthy eateries, so if he gets to one of them before me, it's safe to assume i'll love the food as well. besides, my japanese friends & foodies who live in LA introduced me to Murakami's as one of their faves...

last week, i went to the inaugural session of Secret Chambers - a new monthly with great music & a fun crowd at an awesome downtown spot... the Crocker Club is a low lit lounge in the converted basement vaults of the historic Crocker Bank. even though i didn't stay up late on this Tuesday, i had a really nice time while the party picked up. DJs Aaron Castle & Ashland Mines aka Total Freedom (of Mustache Mondays) play my kinda jams...

over the weekend, old friends Sara & Callum had a farewell party. barely back from working on a movie in New Zealand, they were off to Canadia for another big one - a James Cameron production of At The Mountains Of Madness, to be directed by the acclaimed Guillermo del Toro. after spending millions to get it all going, including Guillermo & Callum's very recent & expensive location scout, Universal pulled the plug the day before our party - another typical LA story! it's all good, Del Toro has another movie in the works, who knows where that one might take Sara away from me... regardless, the party must go on; we celebrated...

this party had a theme - dress like where you'd like to live for a year... my outfit was "Found In Translation!" basically, i'd love to be in Tokyo without having to step out of the Hyatt for an entire year, so i just wore my usual clothes but threw on a swanky kimono as a robe! although Sara was looking forward to what would have been a great gig in Canadia, she's a LA girl true & true; she has it down! her outfit was the one of the quintessential Beachwood Canyon babe on the go, you know, the kind you see everywhere at Mayfair market between yoga classes & work out sessions with some private trainer/healer/lifecoach, running around in tights, sneakers, sporty tank tops, random baseball cap with the name or logo of some studio, with a fancy organic iced coffee/tea in one hand & the latest iphone in the other - classic! although i'm sure her cup was later re-filled with Jesus juice, sooo Hollywood - imagine that: a nice industry Jewish girl sippin' on Jesus juice! it doesn't get any classier than that...

just cuz a touch of trippy grimy Belgian techno is always fun in small doses. i like The Subs. besides, the kid in the video kicks ass... hellz yeah:
