here's a little behind the scenes of what commercial production can be like, and how it actually feels for 90% of the directors & producers who work on commercials, when they'd rather be doing something a little more fulfilling to the soul. when a Chinese agency starts off by referencing The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" for a mass appeal McDonald's commercial... well, that just sums it all up! i could go on & on: calling actors who aren't fat fat, fighting over the red vs. blue shirt... now, some directors & producers haven't gotten as sucked into the ad world as this very sad & somewhat shallow John Benet, who's clearly not a happy human being & has made choices in his life that seem rather soulless. yet, this film is a wonderful encapsulation of how even those who've achieved more balance & success outside of commercials feel when working on one, rather than a film or a great television show. "Sunshine" does a fantastic job at illutstrating both the seductive glamour & the idiocy of advertising...

EXPRESS YOURSELF

it's hysterical how the early to mid 90s have been completely revived so accurately by kids (yes, i'm "mature" enough to call them kids now) who weren't even of age to actually experience the 90s fashion & party scene like most of my friends & i have in our hayday... anyway, not exactly sure how it all happened, considering most of us who survived the 90s wouldn't have gone back in the first place... but i'm glad they're here again. i get to relive them a bit, with a clear head this time around!
Jeremy Scott is validating my raver days with his latest collection (which i've already seen for years in a cooler DIY fashion at A Club Called Rhonda or Mustache), vintage/90s Jean-Paul Gaultier is soooo wearable again, and Diplo's beats keep taking me back to the sound of crazy 90s wearhouse raves. his new video by a director born in the mid 80s i.e. too young to really experience the early 90s, Shomi Patwary, also kills it 90s street style!

here's a little mix i put together between LA & Miami. it's bouncy enough to burn a few calories with a smile on your face; a few classics finely remixed, and then that one song i thought i couldn't bare hearing one more time - videogames - but somehow, remixed in a way that makes me like it, for now... i'm especially digging the new tunes from Marina & The Diamonds, Sam Sparro, Ssion, The Dø & The Shoes, whose banger remix sounds like Daft Punk with balls; mad props to SebAstian! i also had to follow with Grimes; her video takes me back to those high school days when crushing on weird artsy girls & the boys around them led to some fun surprises... oh the good ol' days! enjoy & share the wealth:

L'Odysée de Cartier

a film for my mom's favourite bijoutier -Cartier- by Bruno Aveillan:

as a child, i used to dread having to shop with my mom anywhere near a Cartier, because we would inevitably end up at Cartier for at least two hours. my mother would spend a infinite & torturous amount of time inspecting everything they had, and then asking me for my opinion, which was fine for the first 5 minutes, but not for hours & hours on end... when i turned 12 or 13, i finally put my foot down & refused to go through that ordeal, storming out & going shopping on my own & for myself, while she figured out which Cartier was the one... oh the glorious eighties!
