this 1978 anthem by MUSIQUE is the ultimate record to throw on towards the end of the night, just when you were thinking of going home... or at least some loungy speak easy for a night cap or simply a bite in your favorite all night diner! this disco classic has kept me on the dancefloor way past my bedtime ever since i can remember!!! speaking of disco, don't miss DISCO FEVER DREAMS this month at Cinefamily...
to wake you up, this mix starts with the sound of an alarm, in METRONOMY's remix of Lykke Li's "I'm Good I'm Gone." later in the mix, BLACK KIDS remix the same song. 2 great versions! since i'm infatuated with Lykke Li, i threw in "Until We Bleed" by KLEERUP featuring... yep: LYKKE LI!
at #2, PLUXUS starts out like disjointed bits & pieces that converge into increasingly melodic beats. i really dig the progression in this track... early in this mix i had to include one of my favorite songs from last summer by the fabulous ROÍSIN MURPHY...
remember the VIDEO in which she's wearing VIKTOR & ROLF from head to toe? i luv it! i also love how DIPLO adds the punch that was missing in the FEIST song. i feel it all! Diplo also does a fine job remixing a fellow USC graduate - YOUNG MC. Trojans kick ass!!! wow, where did this latent school spirit suddenly come from?! while i'm at it, GO LAKERS!!! congrats to the Celts though... scroll down for the original video.
the soulful disco boogie infusing this mix kicks in with LA based ROMEO EROTIC who has revisited 3 classics by GARY LOW, STARPOINT & THE BAR-KAYS. if nothing else, the CLIP for Gary Low's "You Are A Danger" is amazing. watch it! when the vocals kick in, i always find myself singing along "AAAH-EEEH-AAAH" to the top of my lungs. try it! in the same vain, i really love the heartfelt song by DE-LITE's Dazzle! it's like a disco novela!
MU's MAURICE FULTON remixes a song by Rollmottle, whom i know nothing about. i just dig it... i really love everything i've heard from WOMEN & snuck in a short track of theirs, along with some disco danceable rock by Led Zep for good measure.
i had to harden up this mix with some more aggressive beats courtesy of RÉVOTLE & LA MODE (doing a sick remix of P. Diddy's "Bad Boy For Life"), FASTODON (turning CRYPTONITES's "I Can't Give You Up" into a raging banger), and my favorite being KILL NOlSE (remixing Estelle's "American Boy" featuring Kanye West). hmmm, i haven't had an American boy in a while. speaking of boys, this mix ends with a disco song titled "Dancer." i'll dedicate it to the 3 dancers i've dated in the US of A! i guess i can still date 5 more. you know what they say, 8 is enough...
i love THE SHOES' remix of "Slow Kids" by CHEEKY NOSEBLEEDS. shit, it reminds me of being blissfully fucked up on loads of pure mdma when i would have dived into the speakers if i could have magically done so... aaaah the 90s, good times! anyhew, if you missed it, The Shoes' banger "Hold Me Down" is track #25 on THIS playlist posted several months ago...
BAG RAIDERS remix KID SISTER as well. speaking of which, she will be sharing the stage next month with N.E.R.D. & other fun acts at HARDFEST...
HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR is fun live. "Blind" is sweet, although i enjoy their remix of Yazoo even more; it's track #11 on THIS past playlist... phew, that's about it for this one. have a merry'gay'round & bust a move or two or more over the week-end!!!
