Blue Xmas
Noël Bleu (Blue Xmas) is a video mapping project on the Notre Dame Church of Guebwiller, a happy village located on the "Wine Path" in Alsace, France. the show consists of a 18 min graphical exploration of the church, designed by the 1024 architects, following a musical ambient score composed by Vincent Villuis...
the show runs 8 times every weekend at dusk, till Xmas. the video in HD format is warped in realtime on the façade, using 1024's custom software... 1024's François Wunschel & Pier Schneider are co-founding members of Exyzt who first impressed me with their installation for Etienne de Crécy's 2007 tour:
Exyzt is a Paris based collective of architects, designers, technicians who keep putting together some of the most engaging installations. all the way back in 2007, they created an hour of visual mapping and projections on a big cube, with Etienne de Crecy playing live electronic music, and triggering the lights and visual sequences, standing in the middle cube, inside their installation:
for this setup, Exyzt used semi-transparent material to give more depth to the projections, and all the content is perfectly mapped to the structure, and produced with a very specific technique, to give the impression that the cubes are actually in 3D, and to create depth and volume. in fact there is only one projector, and all the magic comes from the clever setup and the quality of production.
