WILD COMBO (10 MP3Z)

.
this is my first post of the Tenz!
watching the moon rising over
Miami
each night is pretty amazing, i never tire of it:

i kick it off with a new playlist which i will soon post.
till then, here are 9 tracks i've heard while out
& about in Miami that will be in the mix &
a 10th 20 minute long piece
of marimbas & drums.

since i'm listening to a lot of Arthur Russell,
my new playlist will have a few of his tracks.

this amazing cello player, vocalist, composer & music producer
unfortunately died of AIDS (or complications thereof) in 1992.
he is probably best known for producing the 1980 disco
anthem
Is It All Over My Face (further down in this post).
during the 70s, he wrote avant garde music & lyrics
that remain current to this day. just to give you an
idea, the 1st song of his in my new playlist is a
wild combination of cello, beats and his
freakishly soothing voice.
today's Erlend Øye aka Kings Of Convenience
aka The Whitest Boy Alive reminds me
of the one & only Arthur Russell:

THIS IS HOW WE WALK ON THE MOON - MP3
(Arthur Russell)

i highly recommend Wild Combination:

i'm no Lilly Allen fan. i don't even have much of an opinion
about her. i've never included her songs in my playlists till
now & i'm not even sure i like the following song. it's
nice that she isn't down with those hateful ones
in the world, but how does telling a hater to
fuck off going to help? right?! regardless,
this remix makes it a lot sweeter:

FUCK YOU - MP3

(Doctor Rosen Rosen remix of Lilly Allen)

i recently posted the video; here's a cool remix:

HEAVEN CAN WAIT - MP3

(Nosaj Thing remix of Charlotte Gainsbourg ft. Beck)

& NOW THE PIÈCE DE RÉSISTANCE!
my friend Mila put it on for me in the new year. without
a doubt,it's the sickest track i've heard in all of 2010!!!
dayummmmm, it's aimed squarely for the seediest &
sexiest house floors, coming on with some strictly
XXX adult vibes. even if straight up deep house
isn't your thang, if you've never heard it
before, listen to it anyway; 3 to 4
minutes into it, the smutt
kicks in hardcore:

PHREAKY MUTHAFUCKER - MP3

(Mike Dunn presents Mr. 69)

Photobucket

"Now the Michael thing is very complex" indeed!
it's one of the tracks Mila picked & asked
her very own phreak
to create a fun set with (go to "wanna download a new
mix" at bottom of link to get to the "crambone" mix)

ok here's something to cool off a bit:

THE ERASER - MP3
(XXXChance mix of Thom Yorke)

Donnie Sloan of Empire Of The Sun, a duo who've made
it in many of my 2009 playlists, is also part of the
The Swiss, a live three piece Ozzie band who
make the best nu disco around.
here's my favourite:

BUBBLE BATH - MP3

(The Swiss)

here's a little tangent! also from Oz,
Sia recently redid "You've Changed" into
something more suitable for the danceflloor.
MP3 is #67 in my last playlist of 09. the video is cute:

back to Arthur Russell... the 1980 female vocal version that
changed the landscape of dance music will be in my next
playlist, but for now here's the original Arthur
also co-wrote & co-produced:

IS IT ALL OVER MY FACE - MP3

(Loose Joints 1979)

Photobucket

now here's some more nu disco brilliance:

THE PHOENIX ALIVE - DEMO MP3

(Monarchy)

Photobucket

this next one is from decades ago, yet
the message remains the same:

THIS IS YOUR TIME - MP3

(Change)

finally, here's a really cool stand alone track that won't be
in my next playlist. it's a 20 minute song with tons of

marimba and a healthy dosage of effects mixed with
electronic drums by Spencer Krug. this time around,
Krug who hails from Canadia & also collaborates
with amazing bands such as Wolf Parade, goes
by the moniker of Moonface... enjoy & share
this goodness from Canadia:

MARIMBA & SHIT-DRUMS - MP3

(Moonface)

Photobucket

the xylophone might be my favourite instrument; the marimba
is my very close second!!! well, this concludes my very
1st post of the 10s. i'll soon post the new playlist.

there's a lot of really crappy electronic music blasting out of
the stores, cafés & clubs of Miami. in the thick of it all,
with close friends, the right kinda crowd & away
from the tacky venues, the scene is still really
fun down here. funky & mellow at the
same time... rrrico suave!

these tunes are a nice overview of what i've been hearing
around Miami. the 4 previous entries include more
tracks i've heard around town that i love:

love seat
rhapsody
xmas treat
miami grace
