el niño rains are back. i'm not the umbrella'ella'ella kinda guy. a fine pair of vintage pucci shades is all i really need to skip in the rain... i just got my 1st haircut of the decade & kept a little more wave at the top than usual. i like the wave. i luv nu wave. i luv it so much i will end the weekend at garageland, a nu weekly (starting this sunday) of post punk, nu wave, kraut rock & no wave at the most unpretentious spot on hollywood's cahuenga corridor... i'm so riding this wave! WAVE ON:
i remember when i used to go to "garage parties" back in the 80s. in Brussels, most townhouses had one garage door entrance underneath the stoop, with a space long & deep enough to park 3 or 4 cars behind each other. we'd take the cars out & set up turntables & a dark light & dance all night... garage parties quickly expanded to much larger warehouse gatherings... in the early 90s when i worked as a waiter at Orlando's EPCOT center for 2 summer months, i used to dance all night at a converted Firestone garage downtown, but that was more like "raving" to the tune of mainstays Sasha & John Digweed haha... ah the good old days! drugs were good back then; there was no stopping us... living clean & sober wasn't part of my plan!
on a completely different note, here's something that makes me proud of my south african heritage! i'm not sure what to make of it but i'm blown away; die antwoord is like gummo hits cape town with some ridiculously fun beats. i can't wait for the cool remixes to pop up! just for today, i'm totally on board with the zef side of life:

on the way home tonight i grabbed a bite at the Standard's diner. the flipside of their menus have portraits of cute LA folks from a million years ago. the one i got had none other than Jason Ivan on it. we go way back. he too grew up in Belgium among other places. we even dated for a minute. mostly we partied a lot! back then, being naughty was fun!!! i broke a few of his sister's wine glasses... anyhew, my mister Ivan moved to Napa a while back & i should go visit. till then:
