HOT OFF THE PRESS! earlier this year, a very lucky TIMOTHY SACCENTI visited the legendary MARTIN GORE at his house in Santa Barabara. there, Timothy got to rummage through Martin's closet to pick a few outfits before going to a nearby studio for a few hours. here's the result:
i'm conflicted about Lana Del Rey's schtick; can't decide if i like it or not. either way, i enjoy her songs & i appreciate how successful her marketing machine is. people are eating it up & i can respect that. one thing's for sure, i love the tigers in her crispest video to date, by Yoann Lemoine:
HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO FOR LOVE? not a bad thing to ask yourself with thanksgiving, the holidays, and my very own birthday coming up!!! anyway, Cartier has unveiled Painted Love, a collaboration that finds Air‘s music coming together with the visuals credited to NYC's Waverly collective, but actually created & directed by Brooklyn-based BEN DICKINSON, with the participation of the talented illustrator IRINA DAKEVA. this short film — okay, you can call it a video if you absolutely must — is only the first installment of a projected three-part series sponsored by Cartier, with each one featuring a different combination of directors and musicians, and all of them providing their own answers to the thematic question “How far would you go for love?”
in the case of Painted Love, a dreamy, surrealistic piece of work, the hero is a passionate painter who pops in and out of the realms of reality and art, blurring the borders between the two as he pursues the dream girl from his paintings, who comes alive and beckons him to be with her. the series is set to be completed sometime next year, but Cartier isn’t waiting that long to start celebrating — on November 25, the official launch party for the trilogy will take place in Tokyo at Sound Museum Vision. not only will frequent Air accomplice Sébastien Tellier be performing live, there’ll also be DJ sets from Kitsuné co-founder Gildas Loaëc and, yes, Air themselves. But even if you aren’t able to catch a plane to Tokyo in time to party with the Parisian pop princes and their pals, you can still feast your eyes on the fruits of their work on this page and anticipate what’s still to come in Cartier’s series. also, check out this behind-the-scenes clip with Air's Jean-Benoît Dunkel:
looks like Immortals not only took in twice as much at the box office on its first weekend as it cost to make, but it very well could have taken all the action packed testosterone out of Tarsem's system. his latest, Mirror Mirror, is a much brighter tongue-in-cheek version of the classic Snow White fairytale:
Julia Roberts' queen might be more interesting of a character than Snow White herself, but at least, she's not a million times hotter than Snow White, you'll understand what i mean below... Nathan Lane keeps it light, The Social Network's Armie Hammer is eye candy enough, and the flamboyant costumes are rather fun.
if a Princess Bride style movie doesn't cut it for you, Rupert Sanders' darker Twilight version of Snow White will come out a few months later. my only question here: IS THE MIRROR ON CRACK?! how could Kristen Stewart (Snow White) ever be fairer than the much sexier Charleze Theron?! how could a pasty bony white chick be more attractive than a flawless South African queen?! c'mon now, if i was Charleze & some stupid mirror told me Kristen Stewart might be more beautiful, i'd be mad as hell. maybe that's why this austere version is a lot more violent than Tarsem's... still, the trailer is bad ass. besides, i'm slightly intrigued with what Marvel superhero Thor adds to the fairytale. what an interesting mashup to say the least:
the moral of the story is that a mirror can be quite right, or quite simply dead wrong. make sure you buy the right one!!!

i'm not sure today's date has any mythological significance, but you might find it in TARSEM's latest movie IMMORTALS... at the very least, you'll find lots of gold-lamé leotards, cool fetishistic headgear andHenry Cavill in action, shirtless. c'mon now, what else do you need?!

i don't do chain store one-offs by major designers, but i'd make an exception here... anyhew, Lindsey Wixson and Daphne Groeneveld star in the surrealist, minute-long Versace for H&M spot, by veteran director Johan Renck. Daphne clones are pumped out on a conveyor belt in one scene; in another, Donatella Versace pulls on ropes attached to the two models like marionettes; and in still another, Versace picks up Groeneveld by thumb and forefinger as she runs up a staircase. the spot ends with Donatella turning around to announce:
ok, here's the song least likely to ever make it on my blog because, frankly, i'm just not that into it... however,directorGreg Jardin(pictured here with his radical music video rep Jenn Heath) did such an incredible job, that i can actually enjoy the song; even his sound design adds a nice touch to the experience... it just goes to show how much a video can do for an artist i personally would hardly appreciate otherwise...
here's the skinny -Greg Jardin spent the last 22 months, on and off, holed up with over 288,000 JELLY BEANS and a rotating army of interns, to create this magical piece for Kina Grannis. more about their diligent process:

just a week ago, i sawSADE front & center, 10 rows down from the stage in the VIP section thanks toAndrew Hale, Sade composer & keyboardist since 1984. without a doubt, this was the most beautiful, elegant & heart warming show i've been to in many years. to witness such tight intimacy & complicity among a band of so many extraordinary musicians blew my mind... not to mention i've worshipedSade Adusince i was a kid in the 80s! pics of the show in thisiphone albumof mine.
