this Cut Copy video for Need You Now by Keith Schofield was shot on one Saturday this past December in Atwater Village, from the crack of dawn through dinner time, in typical music video fashion - on a shoestring budget with a talented group of friends & drama-free pros coming together to support each other for the glory; not for the money! this is why most of us stick to commercials & the politics of advertising - they pay the bills & allow us to do fun projects like this one from time to time. here are some super lo-fi mobile phone pics i took that day (click on images to enlarge), and a few tunes to keep you dancing through the weekend. special mention to the band members for being so chill; check out Zonoscope...

we're all connected


i love this new WWF spot from Ogilvy & Mather Mexico, directimated by Mato Atom... we're all connected indeed!

after seeing Peter Bjorn & John, meeting George Herms, forefather of the Beat Generation, was last week's highlight. it's difficult to pin down his amazing multimedia assemblage - a free-jazz opera with large-scale sculptural instruments, live and recorded video, Bobby Bradford and the Mo’tet, the Theo Saunders group, and the voice of soprano Diana Briscoe... the show started in reverse with a curtain call & ended with an invitation to explore the stage being slowly dismantled! all i can say is that it was an extremely touching happening, coloured with a sharp sense of humour! George Herms isn't merely an artist; GEORGE HERMS IS ART!


earlier in the week, i was back at Soho House for Adria Petty's presentation of her documentary on her friend Regina Spektor - Live In London:

Adria is a sweetheart. so is Tom Petty, her supportive dad who was in the room... later that evening, Mel Gibson came up to the bar & ordered what looked like something that would fuel the crazy that has been reported in the tabloids... this was my cue to head to the safety of my bed!


friday night, i swung by the super cramped, overly crowded & ambitious opening at This LA, where a few directors i know presented art work, such as Molly Schiot whose piece i never got to see due to how packed & uncomfortable the space was. but here's a fun short she did with the sexy Malin Akerman & the adorable Biba... real art on da face:


later friday evening, i headed to another party in Silverlake, at the space that housed Urb Magazine way back when, now the home of Dirty Robber & World War Seven:

i wrapped up the weekend with a farewell dinner for a friend leaving for 3 months, to work on Marvel Studios' The Avengers... sounds like a fun project! our little gathering was like a mini USC Film School reunion:

sunday night, the Flux Artist Series at Soho House hosted the acclaimed Michel Gondry who presented the film-book he made with Julie Doucet. LOOOOOOOVED IT! i just luv the guy for going from the Green Hornet back to a gig of such a different scale & scope... later, Becky Stark joined the pianist & sang while Michel played the drums. too cuuute!!! as usual, my super lo-fi mobile pics come with tunes i dig... Peter, Bjorn And John's latest is included. thanks to Valida, i actually saw their super intimate show this monday; total mayhem, best way to kick off the week... here we go:
