ever since my folks left their diplomatic post in beautiful pre-Chavez Venezuela, my brothers & i meet them in Miami every Christmas & New Year's. we all fly in just in time to toast the central character of the most successful novel ever published & exchange a few presents & lots of love... in honor of, ummm, his birthday??? cheers to traditions... i'm totally game for whatever brings us back together anytime anywhere... anyhew, before flying out of LA, i fittingly sported my Jesus Is My Homeboy t-shirt at several parties & enjoyed Peaches Christ Superstar; check out this review & these kick ass pics... later on, i boogied a bit at Midnight Magic's intimate funky disco show in a downtown warehouse. the band is comprised of former members of Hercules & Love Affair & current members of Jessica 6... here are my very last 2010 lo-fi mobile pics from the city of angels:

a life of fluxury

MP3 is in this playlist.

i was at the Orpheum last for Yoko Ono; tonight it's for none other than Peaches Christ Superstar & i'm beyond excited! from the start, December has kicked ass... the Wooster Group was phenomenal at the Red Cat; this venue often has solid performances... now, Passion Pit at the Palladium wasn't as good as i wanted it to be but i still enjoy listening to them on my ipod... Flux had a fun screening at the Hammer that included Sophie Gateau's latest, and Canada's new Scissor Sisters video above, taking their fantastic COSMOS one up a notch... fashion mention goes to Cathy Cooper for pairing her Grey Ant (the new high heeled Teva Stiletto & jumpsuit from a few seasons past) with an Ungaro jacket & Chanel bracelets... WIN!!!

that's Raquel, founder of Resource, my 1st LA boss & the best i ever had!

industrious elves

while industry holiday parties often end up like this, they usually start on a slightly more formal note... it's all very repetitive yet nice to catch up with the better movers & shakers of the lot...

here are some of my lo-fi pics on taken on the fly at Caviar's Winter Formal, AICP's toy drive & Motion Theory's celebration of Mirada, their new partnership with the incredibly talented Guillermo del Toro:

i just can't get enough of Florence Welch! anyhew, here in the lalaland of beautiful sunsets, we're blessed to have among us the likes of Ryan Heffington & his talented group of friends & collaborators. together last week, they illuminated the night with Heavy Metal Parking Lot. special mention goes to Moon Spoon Saloon for the gorgeous costumes; they've dressed the troupe before, such as on this night... thanks to Sharlene Durfey for letting me use some of her pics along with my super lo-fi mobile ones... i just can't find the right words to describe this fantastic gathering. the photos of the event & afterparty don't do them justice but i'll let them speak for themselves... all i'm saying, is if you ever get a chance to attend one of their performance installations, GO!!!

♡♡♡ Led Zeppelin ☆ THANK YOU MP3 ♡♡♡

Happy Saint Nicolas Day! back in Belgium today, those who've behaved well over the past year receive a gift from Saint Nicolas, patron saint of pupils... in 1931, the Coca-Cola company promoted Santa Claus as part of an ad campaign, to boost end of year sales. since then, Christmas no longer is viewed as a religious celebration as much as it is a vital tool of capitalism... Capitalism trumps Christianity, no doubt! I wish you all a merry holiday season & lots of fun shopping for others, and for yourselves of course!

rope and summit

We've got our rope and summit Got our rope and summit But we need to wake up Baby wake up UNMASKING YOUR FEARS One by one see them disappear Into the fog down below Slipping is fine As long as you don't fall Still in the quiet morning breeze Swaying gently in unsuspecting dreams Clues of a gathering storm It's time to wake up TIME TO MOVE ON!

Junip ☆ ROPE AND SUMMIT MP3

as we're about to put another year behind us, i'm almost certain this JUNIP song is my favourite of 2010. Pitchfork's Ian Cohen sums it up well: "Got a rope and summit," González sings repeatedly at the outset, and while it's an economically evocative lyric, it's a bit of misdirection as to how Junip works. Theirs is a sound that doesn't move upward so much as downhill, accumulating its mass with sheer momentum. What's interesting is how little González needs to be pushed. A solo version of "Rope and Summit" might have been the most propulsive thing on any of his prior albums, but Elias Araya's drumwork gives it a vital pulse, while Tobias Winterkorn's drafty synths put meat on the bones. The rhythm section plays with a steady hand throughout Rope, favoring simplicity and shade while retaining the uncluttered sonic arranging that so often serves as a trademark of González's...

back to the here & now toughen up or die:
to live & work in LA rules! especially when PSYOP shine their light on sexy boxing champ Amir Khan! the man's moves could kill, yet he's incredibly sweet & cooperative, with a sharp sense of humor - WIN!!!
